It’s that time again. Amazon’s Kindle ereaders are getting another round of software updates, and they’re getting a bit carried away with decimal points on this one.
The new firmware version is 5.16.10.0.1, and it’s available for all 10th and 11th generation Kindles, as well as the Kindle Scribe. That covers all Kindles released over the past 6 years.
This looks like yet another fairly minor update, but who knows what changes they made that aren’t listed in the release notes.
Like usual with Kindle updates, you can download and manually install the update from the Kindle Software Updates page at Amazon. Or you can wait for the update to download and install automatically on its own while your Kindle is charging and connected to Wi-Fi. Amazon usually rolls out updates over a period of several weeks so it might take some time for the auto-update to complete.
Amazon has a tendency to leave out some changes in the release notes so if you notice any other differences feel free to leave a comment below.
Here are the release notes for the new update:
Version 5.16.10.0.1 – July 2024
Here’s what’s new:
Your Lists update: Your Reading Lists is now Your Lists. Your Lists now shows your saved books from your Amazon lists. To find your samples, use the Samples filter in your Library.
Performance improvements, bug fixes, and other general enhancements.

I hope that’s not the only change. They were doing so good with updating the Scribe…then crickets.
The one update that I think everyone wants is to be able to read on one side, and take notes on the other. But, maybe there’s a processor limitation.

I don’t think they “carried away with decimal points”.
There was at least one (1) person on reddit that had their device glitch after getting an automatic 5.16.10 update (no decimals).
At that time I went to check if update 5.16.10 was actually available on Amazon website – it wasn’t.
Update 5.16.10.0.1 is probably fixing whatever that broken update did and the actual update itself.

The new Kindle ereader app is a pain in the butt. Difficult to look at your library and get the a book you were reading.. Bring back the old one. It was so much better and easier!

Reading progress and pages/time remaining are in a much smaller font which is difficult to read. The clock display at the top now shows leading zeroes. Not good changes.
