Crazy Low Prices on Kindles When Stacking Trade-In Discount with Prime Sales

June 24, 2026 by Nathan Groezinger Leave a Comment

Kindle Prime Day Trade In Deals

Yesterday when I posted the list of Prime Day Kindle sales, I wasn’t sure if trade-in discounts were being offered this year since I wasn’t seeing the option when selecting the “Deal Price”, but a number of people have confirmed that trade-ins are indeed working with Prime Day sales.

The Prime Day prices are already pretty good, lower than last year in some cases, but then when you take an extra 20% off with a trade-in, the prices are hard to believe, especially on the newer Scribes that are on sale for the first time ever.

A lot of people like to complain about Amazon and Kindles, but this is one of the reasons why Kindles are still so popular after 19 years. Other companies can’t come close to matching Amazon’s sale prices, and nobody else offers any kind of trade-in program when it comes to buying new devices.

Apparently you can trade-in a number of different Amazon products to get the 20% discount. You used to have to trade-in an older Kindle to get a discount on a Kindle, but they changed it at some point. You still can’t trade-in current gen Kindles, though, even if you bought it a couple years ago.

Last year I traded in an old Kindle during Prime Day and got a Paperwhite SE for $100 plus tax. In addition to the 20% discount, you also get a credit for the device you’re trading in, which helps get the price even lower. Even if your old Kindle is broken and it doesn’t work, Amazon will still accept it for a trade and they’ll give you a $5 credit.

20% Discount Stacked with Prime Day Sales

Here’s a list of Kindle prices with the Prime Day sale stacked with a 20% trade-in discount. The price will be even lower if you use the credit from your trade-in toward the purchase. Some people were getting upgrade prices without having to send their old Kindle in, but I’m not sure if Amazon is still doing that deal, and I don’t think it applied to the Scribes.
