Amazon has the new waterproof Kindle Paperwhite on sale today only for one of their main Deals of the Day.
The new Kindle Paperwhite is marked down to just $89, its lowest price yet, and all versions are on sale, including the 32GB model.
This is a 1-day sale only for January 21st, 2019.
It’s surprising to see the new Paperwhite already on sale for $89 considering it was just released in November.
It has a number of upgrades over the previous model, and that one didn’t even go on sale for $89 very often.
The new version comes with twice as much storage space, with the option for 32GB, it’s waterproof, and they added Bluetooth support to listen to Audible audiobooks.
See my Kindle Paperwhite review for a closer look and to see a list of specs and features.
Here’s how the sale prices breakdown:
8GB Kindle Paperwhite – $89
32GB Kindle Paperwhite – $119
32GB Kindle Paperwhite 4G LTE wireless – $209
The also have the bundle packages that come with a cover and charger on sale with the equivalent discount, but you can save a lot more by buying a 3rd party cover instead.

Want to speculate wildly on why they’d do this? Too many middling reviews? Overstocked? Sudden burst of kindness?
Rick says
If there is any one way to demonstrate that they got it wrong then this is it. This is a desperate attempt to minimize damage control.
Probably overstocked from lagging sales. The Oasis or Voyage never stooped so low. I think people are not easily fooled and realized that the new gimmicky upgrades are totally unnecessary.
Sportbike Mike says
The Voyage and Oasis are premium devices. Premium devices are rarely sold at heavy discounts. This sale is in line with prices Kobo and B&N have offered for their middle of the road device.
Rick says
Well I don’t recall the Basic Kindle being discounted at 32% so soon after release, especially on a non-holiday. As a matter of fact I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Basic Kindle at $55.
Nathan says
Now today they’ve got the Fire HD 8 on sale for $49. It must be because it’s a total piece of junk with not enough upgrades that nobody wants to buy (sarcasm). Time to jump to nonsensical conclusions. 🙂
BTW the basic Kindle has been on sale for $49 multiple times, and the previous version was $29 after rebate once.

I bought my wife one of the Fire HD 8’s for Christmas last year and it sits unused because it’s flat awful! My 1st gen Kindle Fire is quicker and the battery lasts a lot longer. Charge the new one up and you get 3 hours, maybe!
Right about now, I’m sure wishin’ I’d have bought a Voyage!

Why aren’t my comments showing up. Don’t like critique against your overlords?
Nathan says
I haven’t deleted any of your comments. This is the only one showing up.
Sportbike Mike says
My comments occasionally disappear too, but it’s immediate, almost like they get lost in the backend before they hit the database. Curiously, it only happens when I comment from the computer, and it doesn’t happen every time.
Nathan says
Thanks for letting me know, Mike. I don’t know what would be causing it but I plan on upgrading to a better theme soon so hopefully that will help.
Josh says
This happens to me too, but it usually seems to be when I’ve taken a while writing the comment. Might be some sort of time-out problem. I’ve written a few of my longer comments in Notepad and then copy & pasted.
Bob Merlin says
Nathan,
I didn’t post this today. May have months ago,
Bob

This whole thing just make me anxious to buy one more Paperwhite of the previous model, or a refurbished Voyage. Seeing how Amazon update their devices the future of ereaders doesn’t look particularly bright.

I’m kinda worried Amazon might just stop making Kindles altogether one day. Ebook sales have plateaued, and most people read on their tablets and phones anyway.
