A couple of weeks ago I posted an article about the new Archos 97 Titanium HD tablet that is one of the first Android tablets to have a screen similar to the Apple iPad in terms of size and screen resolution.
Since the iPad is one of my favorite tablets for reading because of the high-res screen, I couldn’t resist getting an Android equivalent to see how it stacks up.

Great review. In terms of the screen I heard in the press that Apple puts extra LEDs behind the screen to make it brighter, which is what I’m wondering is the issue here.
In terms of the WIFI connectivity issues you’re having, I recommend you contact Archos about these. I had a similar problem with one of my Onyx e-readers and the problem was corrected with a software fix.
Good idea, Jim. I sent Archos an email about it and will see if I get a response back.
I think I read reviews/opinions/whatever on this tablet or similar ones that said the processor was underpowered for that display. In other words, all those extra pixels requires more processing power.
But your main complaint with performance seems tied to wifi issues. Not saying your wrong, but just contrasting.
Overall it’s pretty zippy for having to power that many pixels, but I’m sure that does indeed effect performance to some extent. I just got in one of the 8″ Coby tablets I posted about the other day and I’m surprised by how fast and smooth it’s running. Even though it has a slightly slower 1.2GHz processor instead of 1.6GHz, it’s definitely a little faster.
