OverDrive Updates Android and iPhone Apps

January 26, 2011 by Nathan Groezinger

OverDrive App

Yesterday OverDrive updated their Media Console apps for iPhone and Android to add some new features.

They added one-click automatic downloads to reduce the number of steps required to download ebooks and audiobooks from libraries.

Access to 15,000 DRM-free EPUB Project Gutenberg ebooks was added to each library’s “Virtual Branch” for downloading whenever you want since there are no waits or holds on them.

Additionally, support for DRM-free EPUBs was added to the iPhone app for ebooks from other online sources (this features was already included in the Android app).

Other improvements to the Android app include a new user interface with an ebook expiration countdown calendar and a page-lock feature to keep the screen position locked in portrait or landscape.

The iPhone app received a boast in performance to increase page load time and the “Reader Settings” icon at the top of the page now fades away after 5 seconds.

The OverDrive Media Console app for iPhone is available in iTunes and the Android app can be found in the Android Market and on OverDrive’s website.
