Video Playing Smoothly on E Ink Pearl Screen

February 11, 2011 by Nathan Groezinger

Bookeen Video

Bookeen posted a YouTube video (below) on their blog today showing video playback on an E Ink Pearl display, the same type of screen the Kindle 3 and Sony Readers use.

Back at CES, Freescale demoed their latest ereader processor hooked up to a Pearl panel running at 8 frames per second.

Freescale’s processor uses a Cortex A8 CPU. This new video indicates the same. But it certainly looks like it’s running considerably more than 8 fps now. The engineers at Bookeen must have juiced it up some more—they don’t give any details other than this video, of course.

If they can get video running on Pearl screens then perhaps they can get it to work on E Ink’s new Trition color displays too.
