Kindle Colorsoft On Sale for First Time, But There’s a Catch

January 17, 2025 by Nathan 4 Comments

Kindle Colorsoft Sale

Amazon has finally put the Kindle Colorsoft on sale for the first time since it was released last October—it’s the last new Kindle to go on sale—but it’s one of those deals that’s exclusively for Amazon Prime members.

If you have an active Prime membership you can get the Kindle Colorsoft for $229 right now instead of the usual price of $279. Plus you can an additional 20% off if you have something to trade-in.

Even without a trade-in, being able to get $50 off is a pretty good deal, especially considering that Amazon is selling used Colorsofts with cosmetic imperfections for more than $229.

However, at this point, it’s still unlcear if Amazon has really fixed the frontlight issue on the Colorsoft or not. As if color E Ink isn’t polarizing enough (people either seem to love it or hate it), Amazon has added another layer to the equation in the form of frontlight banding— some people are really bothered by it and other people don’t care or don’t see it.

Outside of that, I think the Colorsoft is one of the best color E Ink devices on the market. For some reason the color just looks better than similar models, and ghosting is much less of an issue than it is on Onyx’s devices. Amazon also offers a lot more color content than some other stores like Kobo.

See my Kindle Colorsoft review for more information about the device and to see the color E Ink screen in action.

One weird thing about this sale is it’s only for the Colorsoft when purchased individually. When Amazon does Kindle sales they usually mark down the bundle packages as well, but this time they didn’t so it costs almost $100 more just to add a cover and a charger—it’s cheaper to buy everything separately.

What do you mean when you say you can’t download and transfer books with the new Kindle line?

They only support wireless downloads using WiFi; you can’t download ebooks from Amazon’s website and load them onto your Kindle via USB like you can with older models.

So no side loading of books whatsoever? Only through WiFi?
That’s a dealbreaker for me. Thank you for the clarification.
        Keep up your amazing work!

You can still sideload non-Amazon books.
