Barnes and Noble has officially released a new Nook ereader, the Nook Glowlight 4, and it’s now available to order from B&N’s website.
The new Nook is a 6-inch model with 32GB of storage, USB-C, and it has a new smaller and lighter design (although they don’t specify how much lighter).
Like the previous Nook, it still has page buttons on both sides of the screen (but now they’re closer to the edge) and it has a frontlight with adjustable color temperature, which B&N calls Night Mode.
It has a 300 ppi E Ink screen, but they’re presumably using the newer E Ink screen with darker blacks because B&N says it has “enhanced contrast”.
Barnes and Noble doesn’t share a lot of technical details, but according to this post at MobileRead the new Nook has a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU, and the software is based on Android 8.1.
Barnes and Noble is selling the Nook Glowlight 4 for $149.99 with free shipping, and B&N members can get 10% off.
not in stores yet in the Philadelphia area . anyone able to get one in a store today ?
None are showing up within 100 miles of my area as well.
I was able to get one last night in a store in Center City. Still showed not available in sores on line but I called and they had them . no covers though . just ordered one online from their website.

Olympia, WA store said they have stock when I called. In the store they had none and no idea when they would be available for sale. BN website shows no stock at any store in the state. Reminds me of previous experiences with Nook and BN.
What was the previous experience if I may ask? Sorry I don’t live in US.
Great hardware. Barely adequate software. Retail stores that are apathetic about the product. That’s how I’d summarize a decade of trying to use Nook. I loved my original Simple Touch. I think the Nook team does some things better than anyone else. But it’s hard to believe the claims that BN is getting serious about Nook when they don’t even bother to stock them on release day.
In Dublin California, the store has about 7 units in stock on 12/8/21. No demo unit for customers. It seems they are not excited about their new product, as they didn’t put up poster at the front door, only a small counter sign at the Info desk. I just don’t understand BN’s marketing strategy.
Bought one in Olympia, WA on 12/10. They even had cases. Two days late during peak holiday pandemic supply chain madness is actually not bad. So far I like it. Hope Nate does one of his excellent reviews.

I probably won’t review the new Nook. There’s just not enough interest in Nooks anymore. My Glowlight 3 review was one of the least viewed reviews I’ve done in the past 5 years.
Disappointing but understandable. The GL4 is a modest upgrade to a weak brand of unpopular devices. I have readers from Kindle, Kobo and PocketBook that offer a more polished overall experience. Onyx makes more sense for general purpose Android. But for the dozens of us still dreaming of a Simple Touch 2, the Glowlight 4 is nearly perfect. They nailed the funky comfortable feel and easy customizability of the early Nooks. I hope they surprise us all and sell heaps of them.
Review it. It is a decent device. They really slimmed it down. I am surprisingly impressed. Store employees still have “I don’t care” attitude. Which makes me mad. At least they did not sell me an empty box like the last time. lol I am disappointed in a way i was expecting a big redesign and a name rebranding since BN is under new ownership.
I got mine at the Zona Rosa in Kansas City. As usual the employees were clueless on what a Nook was even tho they were standing next to display models. So pathetic. Took forever to buy. They had a don’t care attitude. I was hoping with new store ownership that we would get a total redesign and name for the device. But anyway I am impressed on how slim it is. The box was super small. The device itself booted up faster, loaded up faster, page flip faster. I am disappointed that there are not more font and text size options. Also no screen saver options like we once had,
With only 5GB available for sideloaded content, they must still be focused on “carry B&N in the palm of your hand”.
Would it have hurt them to allow adding an SD card for sideloaded content at least? I loved my original Nook…
Have they added a directory view in addition to Collections yet?
At least it still offers page turn buttons.
