The Best Tablets for eReading 2012

November 28, 2012 by Nathan

The eBook Reader.com

I’ve been meaning to write an article about the Best Tablets for eReading for a long time to go along with the Best eBook Readers page, but when you start to think about it it’s not an easy task to complete given the sheer volume of tablets on the market these days.

How could I possibly pick just five of them and rank them in order? Well, I can’t. There are too many variables and each person has their own likes and dislikes. So it turned out to be more of a guideline for choosing the best tablet for ereading, rather than just a top five list.

So here it is, the Best Tablets for eReading.

Like the Best eBook Readers page, I decided to make it a separate page instead of a blog post so that I can update it each year with a new list. Feel free to come back to this post to leave thoughts and comments.

Great end-of-year summation of the eReader and tablet market Nathan!

    My own analysis:

Best 10″ Android tablets: Google Nexus 10, Asus Transformer Inifinity

Best 9″ Android tablet: Nook HD+ (with N2A card when they come out)

Best 7″ Android tablet: Kindle Fire HD (the extra reading features they have added really are great for readers, not to mention Prime and all of Amazon’s content)

Best 6″ eReaders: Kindle Paperwhite, Kobo Glo

Best alternative eReaders: Kobo Mini (5″ display, compact size), Onyx M92 (best 9.7″ E Ink eReader)

Best non-Android tablet: of course, the iPad 4 with retina display

Nice picks! I can’t argue with any of those. If the Nexus 10 had a keyboard dock I’d sell my Transformer Infinity to get one.

Yeah, I was grappling with this decision myself, especially since the Transformer Infinity went down to like $449 on Black Friday. I would love to have a tablet/ultra book-style convertible, but when it comes down to it, the retina display and $399 price tag got me. I sold off all of my tablets and am just going to stick with the Nexus 10 and Android Jelly Bean 4.2 ๐Ÿ™‚ I am fully rejecting the “skinned” Android OS from now on. It also seems that N2A cards for the HD+ are a few months away.
