EeWrite E-Pad X First Dual Screen Tablet with E Ink Display (Video)

May 7, 2019 by Nathan Groezinger

EeWrite E-Pad X

It looks like the makers of the new 10.3-inch E Ink E-Pad tablet that’s available on Indiegogo right now already have a new project in the works.

EeWrite is looking to be the first company to release a dual screen tablet with a color LCD screen on one side and a monochrome E Ink screen on the other side.

They’re calling it the E-Pad X.

There have been a few E Ink phones that have an E Ink screen on the back, like the Hisense A6, but there haven’t been any tablets with E Ink screens yet.

A few devices have tried combining LCD and E Ink in flip form, like the Lenovo Yoga Book C930, for a 2-in-1 approach, but the E-Pad X would do away with the hinge and combine them into a single unit.

The EeWrite E-Pad X is expected to have a 9.7-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2048 x 1536. Unfortunately it sounds like they are going to go the cheap route on the E Ink screen. Apparently they’re going to use a low resolution 9.7-inch screen with 150 ppi instead of the 10.3-inch display with 227 ppi that’s on the E-Pad.

The E Ink side has a Wacom touchscreen for notes and drawings. The tablet has a microSD card slot and USB-C port. It has a 6-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage space. It has a 5,000 mAh battery.

One interesting thing to note, there’s a button to switch between the LCD screen and E Ink screen—you can only use one at a time.

At this point it looks like they basically glued an ereader to the back of a tablet, but it’s not a final product yet and they are expected to try and make it thinner and lighter.

hi when do we get the Mimas vs Note pro reviiew

It won’t be until next week. There’s really not much interest in the Mimas so I’m doing other things first. The Note Pro is superior in every way except not having a memory card slot and page buttons. The software on the Mimas is a big letdown compared to Onyx’s software, and the writing experience isn’t nearly as smooth.

I can tell you right now the Note Pro is the clear and obvious winner. It’s not even close, really, which is a shame because I wanted to keep the Mimas instead with the page buttons and save $100 but unless Boyue majorly improves their software in the next week that isn’t going to happen.

thanks bud, I actually just wanna know if the Mimas screen looks as clear as the Note Pro one, seems like there’s a gap?

I guess without the glass layer the mimas screen is soft like the original Note. not solid feel.

about the software, I have the neoreader 2.0 (no one uploads the 3.0 yet), can be installed on the likebook or even on the phone

        neoreader 2.0

The Mimas seems to have a rigid layer over the front too, maybe plastic. The screen doesn’t flex like the original Note. I don’t see any obvious contrast difference between the Note Pro and Mimas.

BTW the Neo Reader app does not work on the Likebook.

in the picture (the mimas vs note pro preview post) the mimas is very green-ish and gray, is that because the frontlight not good or the screen contrast?

On its own it seems normal but next to the Note Pro the cool light has a yellower color.

I am happy I didn’t buy the Likebook Mimas and instead waited for the e-pad. BTW, when do you want to make the review of the E-Pad? Did a prototype even arrive to you?

Sorry but I don’t plan on reviewing the E-Pad. Too many of these crowdfunded devices fail to live up to expectations. Developing sound software for E Ink devices takes a lot more time and work than most of these companies think. It’s been nearly two years since the Remarkable was released and it’s still a terrible ebook reader, and it’s probably been the most successful of all the crowdfunded E Ink devices.

    First?

Nah, the Entourage Edge and Pocket Edge were around 8 years ago.

Great devices, ahead of their time, but they were not updated properly.
