Over the past few months there have been some signs that Amazon was in the process of phasing out the Kindle Oasis, and it looks like that time has officially come.
The Kindle Oasis has been removed from the main Kindle landing page at Amazon, and it no longer appears in Amazon’s Kindle comparison tables either. They also removed it from the top banner that advertises the different Kindle models when viewing a Kindle product page.
All versions of the Kindle Oasis are listed as “currently unavailable” on the Amazon website, and they’ve been in and out of stock for the past couple of months. They have the international version listed but it can’t be purchased from the US.
Amazon still has the Kindle Oasis available on some of their international websites, like Amazon UK and Amazon Canada, but at this point it’s just a matter of time before they sell off the remaining stock and stop advertising it on those sites as well.
The 10th generation Kindle Oasis was released in 2019 so it had a long run. Plus they reused the design of the 9th gen model that was released in 2017, only adding a warm frontlight to the 10th gen model, so it’s been a long time since the Oasis has seen a real refresh.
A lot of people were hoping for a new Oasis model but that doesn’t look likely at this point. The Oasis line is most likely going to be phased out, but maybe they’ll release a mini Kindle Scribe with a 7″-8″ screen eventually.
Amazon didn’t release any new Kindles last year, and the Paperwhite is going on 3 years old so they’ll probably release something new this year, but who knows what or when. Hopefully they’ll release another Kindle with page buttons, or least have the option to add page buttons with a cover like Onyx did with their Nova Air models.

Not a surprise but nevertheless disappointing.
I hope Amazon does release a Kindle with page turn buttons. I would love to see page buttons as an option on Paperwhites or a new Kindle line.

The Oasis had it’s time in the sun and it’s success is clear to see in the multiple Oasis lookalike clones that exists currently. Those clones aren’t so visible though as they are from Chinese companies that don’t have much presence in the West. I do wish for Amazon to have a new e reader with buttons though and a correctly placed power button-like the Voyage. It can be a smaller e note scribe which I think is more likely as e note hybrids are what’s popular right now or a pure e reader which might be more of a long shot since Paperwhite and Basic are solid devices.

if they ever release another 7-8 inch device, I hope it will have physical buttons. I refuse to purchase another Kindle without these.
Stella says
Completely agree! Love the physical buttons. Wished my Scribe has the buttons too.
I am a big fan of Oasis 3, got 2 of them.
Leo says
They need an 8″ device with buttons and either the border on both sides as wide as the button side or a margin 1/2″ along both edges that is touch free so when you hold the skinny border side you don’t turn pages inadvertently.
Erin says
Oh man, that sucks! It’s my favorite of their line-up. Mine is still going strong, hopefully for a long time to come.

Imhad am Oasis and never really cared for the way it felt. I am left handed and with way the case was made it just didn’t work for a left handed person. I ended up returning it and getting the PW and I have been really glad I did. To be honest I didn’t like the page buttons and prefer the touchscreen page turning. Now I did have the Voyage and I really loved it but the battery life finally gave up, and I tried the Oasis and returned it.
I love my PW with the 6.8 screen and use it most of the time, I also have the bad c kindle that goes with my when I am out and about with appointments for myself and wife, it is small enough to easily fit in my vest pockets and it stays synced much better with the PW. And as a gluten for ebooks and audiobooks I have the 8hd fire tablet for text to speech and audiobooks, I find the text the speech for the Kindles a pain in the butt to use.

Well, if they don’t release any new premium feeling (metal back) device with page turn buttons, then this is it for me and Kindle. I could never use Paperwhite, there is nothing I like about that reader, and Scribe is gigantic.
Eddie says
What will you use instead?
fx says
I mainly use Oasis 3 because of its design… I just like to have a nice feeling device in my hand. But function-wise I much prefer my Kobo Libra 2 and Onyx Boox Page. These on the other hand don’t feel premium at all, but if in the future I only have a choice from ugly readers, I might as well choose one that at least works better. So I’ll probably mainly stick to Onyx Boox Page. But I’m still hoping in Scribe Mini 8″ 🙂
Luis says
Totally agree. The reason I never bought Kobo Libra is that it looks cheap and ugly. all plastic… even though it uses a new Carta screen (1200).
The Oasis series is very classic and, to me, the standout model of all the kindle models (Voyage certainly is another).
I am never a big fan of plastic feeling, so I am not a fan of PWT (even though I have two already). Not for me.

They are still available for next day delivery here in Mexico. Just the 8 GB version though.
Gabor says
In the UK amazon it’s still available in all existing versions, though they only shipping inside the UK.
neoME says
Fun fact: Germany just got a new shipment ( you can buy it now – delivery in two weeks). Therefore they are still producing it. nobody really knows what Amazon is doing.
Harmon says
This is bad news for me. I use my Oasis to read in bed, more or less flat with only my head propped up, & the page turn buttons make it easy to do one handed. While I certainly would like a Kindle midway in size between the Scribe & Paperwhite, particularly if it had buttons, it would be too heavy for one handed reading while lying down.
I do think, however, that a Kindle of that size would be optimum for reading in my easy chair. It would be nice if rather than simply scaling a Scribe down or a Paperwhite up, with the same relative screen measurements, it would be a bit narrower and a bit taller. If you’ve ever noticed, British paperbacks and American paperbacks have different form factors, with the British version being narrower & taller.
So I went to Amazon to check things out & managed to nab a used 8 gig used Oasis, so at least I’ll have a backup for my current Oasis. But I could kick myself for not buying a new one when I was thinking about it a few months ago….
Last June I got an 11th generation 6 inch, & it remains the best option for me when I’m out & about. Not as good as the original Oasis of the same screen size, except that it fits in my pocket more easily!
