Last week Amazon released a new 16GB version of the Kindle Colorsoft, along with a kids bundle. They’re exactly the same as the original Kindle Colorsoft that Amazon released last fall, minus the Signature Edition upgrades, and the original is still available to purchase, but now Amazon is making it very difficult to find it […]

New Assistive Reader Feature on Kindles Has Problems
Yesterday Amazon released a software update for Kindles that adds some new accessibility features, including text-to-speech like Kindles used to have a long time ago. I tried testing out the new text-to-speech feature (Amazon calls it Assistive Reader) on my 12th gen Kindle Paperwhite, but I encountered some problems. I was going to upload a […]
Kindle Software Update 5.18.4 Adds New Accessibility Features
Amazon has released another software update for all 11th and 12th gen Kindles, along with the Kindle Colorsoft and Kindle Scribe. It’s a fairly significant update that adds some new accessibility features, including text-to-speech. Amazon hasn’t updated the release notes yet, but I installed the new 5.18.4 update on my 12th gen Paperwhite and noticed […]
New Kindle Colorsoft Variant Released, Plus Colorsoft Kids Bundle
Today Amazon announced the release of a new lower-priced Kindle Colorsoft along with a Kindle Colorsoft Kids bundle. The new Kindle Colorsoft variant is basically a non-Signature Edition version of the original Colorsoft. It has 16GB of storage space instead of 32GB, and it lacks wireless charging and the auto-brightness sensor (I assume that means […]
Like-New Kindle Paperwhite on Sale for $106 at Amazon
If you missed out on Amazon’s Prime Day Kindle deals earlier this month, you can still get a really good deal on the latest 12th gen Kindle Paperwhite and a Prime membership isn’t required. Amazon currently has the Kindle Paperwhite on sale for $106.99 with free shipping. They’re Amazon certified refurbished Kindles so they aren’t […]
New Kindles Still Have Yellow Tinged Frontlight Issues
There are a lot of reports of the Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft (which is exactly the same as the Paperwhite but with a color screen) having frontlights with a yellow tinge at the cool end of the frontlight spectrum. And some have a yellowing that is more pronounced at the bottom of the screen. […]
New Kindles Still Shipping with Old Software Compatible with Jailbreak
Last week I said the Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition was the best Kindle deal for Prime Day this year, and that wasn’t just a shameless plug. I really felt that way, so much so that I couldn’t resist buying one myself, even though I already have a 12th gen Paperwhite. I traded-in an old Kindle […]
Prime Day Kindle Deals are Much Better This Year Than Last
I saw some reports online about how Prime Day sales are down this year. I don’t know it that’s true or not, but there’s also the fact that Amazon turned Prime “Day” into a 4-day event this year instead of 2 days like in years past so the sales are still ongoing through today. I […]
