When it comes to reading ebooks, the Kindle Fire is a lot different than other Kindles. For one, the Kindle Fire automatically sequesters sideloaded ebooks and documents from Kindle Books, making them appear in a separate section for documents instead of the main ebook library list.
Thanks to Calibre, there is an easy fix for this if you want to get your sideloaded ebooks (non-Amazon ebooks) to appear in the ebook library along with all your other Kindle ebooks.

Amazon started rolling out a firmware update for the Kindle Fire earlier today. The new software version is 6.2.2.
Your Kindle Fire may have already updated itself automatically. To check, open settings then scroll down to “Device”. The software number is listed below “System Version”.

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m really liking the Kindle Fire and I haven’t even rooted it or installed any ROMs yet. But one thing I don’t like is the web browser.
The Kindle Fire comes with its own special web browser called Amazon Silk that was developed by Amazon’s engineers. It is supposed to be awesome and fast and revolutionary—that’s what Amazon wants you to think—but I don’t like it. For one, the viewing area is way too small. There’s about a half an inch of wasted space at the top and another half an inch of wasted space at the bottom.

I mentioned installing a new homescreen on the Kindle Fire to bypass the default homescreen and carousel in the Kindle Fire tips and tricks post, but I don’t think most people understand how easy it is and how it doesn’t require rooting or any technical work whatsoever.
The number one biggest complaint I’m seeing about the Kindle Fire is the default homescreen and carousel. A lot of people would rather have more options for customizing and a good share of folks want to do away with the carousel altogether.

The Kindle Fire has been out long enough now for third-party accessories to start showing up, including skins. Two top places to get skins for the Kindle Fire are GelaSkins
and DecalGirl
. They both have hundreds of designs to choose from and you can even upload and create your own design with GelaSkins.
Skins are a good way to add some style to your Kindle Fire and for adding a layer of protection as well. GelaSkins sent me a coupon code (one of the perks of owning a website), so I went ahead and cashed it in on a Kindle Fire skin and a couple of other skins that I’ll post about later.

The most important accessory for an ereader or tablet is a cover or case to keep it protected. I happened to pick up an Acase cover for the Kindle Fire on Cyber Monday while it was on sale for $11.95.
I am pleasantly surprised by the Acase, especially considering how cheap it was. Most of the other Kindle Fire covers and cases cost between $30 and $50. I’ve never been the kind of person willing to drop $50 for a cover so the Acase was an obvious choice.

Amazon doesn’t want you to know this, but the Kindle Fire supports ePub ebooks just as well as it supports Amazon’s Kindle ebooks. You can load a number of different Android apps that support ePub onto the Kindle Fire, and even download ePub ebooks with the web browser and from the apps directly.
Amazon offers a number of ePub ereading apps from their own Android Appstore, in fact. But unfortunately Amazon is petty and made it so none of the ePub apps show up on the Kindle Fire, claiming they are incompatible when they clearly are not.

Amazon never releases Kindle sales figures but it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that they are selling way more Kindle Fires than E Ink Kindles, probably more than all the E Ink Kindles combined, in fact.
Today Amazon released a statement boasting about selling 4 times more Kindles this year for Black Friday than last year, and last year was a “great year”. There is little doubt the Kindle Fire is largely responsible for the increase.

This Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet comparison review outlines the similarities between the two most popular ereading tablets on the market, and details the advantages each one has over the other.
At the bottom of this post there is a video review comparing the Kindle Fire vs Nook Tablet side-by-side for a closer look. Trying to figure out which one to pick is not an easy task; I’m glad I don’t have to choose. Hopefully this post can help you decide.
